Since its founding in 2010, New Retro Strings has created a unique sound that has brought them to stages and studios locally and nationally. The New York based string quartet has performed live with Paul Weller, Bonobo, Elton John and Stevie Wonder and has recorded with Brendan James, TV on the Radio, Sam Bisbee and on the Yellow Sound and Mother West record labels.

The quartet has been the featured performers at events for President Bill Clinton, Nanette Lepore, David Yurman, Target, Urban Daddy and Eleven Objects playing NRS’s co-founder Claudia Chopek’s rock, pop and jazz arrangements.

New Retro Strings draws from performance experiences with a wide range of groups including Absolute Ensemble, ECCO and Arcos Orchestra as well as pop artists Bruce Springsteen Alan Cumming, Moby, Mark O’Connor, Jay Z, Chuck Prophet and the Jonas Brothers.

New Retro strings is Claudia Chopek (Moby) and Hilary Castle (Mark O’Connor, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra,) on Violin, Gillian Gallagher (Mark O’Connor,Tokyo String Quartet) on viola and Eleanor Norton (Alan Cumming, Absolute Ensemble) on cello.
